Dental Crowns

Anna Kids Dentistry is dedicated to providing excellent dental care for children, and one of the services we offer is dental crowns. Crowns are a versatile restorative option that can help restore and protect your child’s teeth.

What are Dental Crowns?

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped caps that are placed over a damaged or decayed tooth to restore its shape, size, strength and appearance. They can be made from different materials such as porcelain, metal or a combination of both. Also, they are custom-designed to match the color and contour of your child’s natural teeth.

When are Dental Crowns Recommended?

Tooth Decay: When a tooth has extensive decay that cannot be adequately restored with a filling, a crown may be the ideal solution.

Tooth Fracture: If your child has a severely cracked or fractured tooth, a crown can provide strength and protection, preventing further damage.

Tooth Wear: In cases where a tooth is significantly worn down, a crown can restore its shape and function.

Root Canal Treatment: Following a root canal procedure, a dental crown is often placed to protect and strengthen the treated tooth.

Cosmetic Purposes: Dental crowns can also be used for cosmetic purposes, improving the appearance of misshapen, discolored or poorly aligned teeth.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Examination & Consultation: Our experienced pediatric dentist will examine your child’s teeth, evaluate the need for a crown and discuss the treatment plan with you.

Tooth Preparation: The tooth receiving the crown is prepared by removing a small amount of its outer layer to create space for the crown. Local anesthesia is used to ensure your child’s comfort during the procedure.

Impressions: Impressions of your child’s teeth are taken to create an accurate mold that will serve as a guide for the fabrication of the crown.

Temporary Crown: While the permanent crown is being custom-made, a temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth until the next appointment.

Crown Placement: Once the permanent crown is ready, your child will return to our dental office for its placement. Our dentist will ensure the crown fits properly, make any necessary adjustments and cement it securely onto the tooth.

Aftercare

To ensure the longevity and functionality of dental crowns, it’s essential to maintain good oral hygiene. Encourage your child to brush their teeth twice a day, floss regularly and attend routine dental check-ups. Also, it is advisable to avoid chewing hard or sticky foods that may cause excessive pressure.
